Mehrere Farbschichten und verschiedene Materialien werden kombiniert. Es wird teilweise ausgeschöpft bis an die Grenzen des Machbaren. Dabei geht es auch um inhaltliche Fragen zu kreisförmigen Abläufen.
„Die Tondi sowie die CIRCULATION-Serie bearbeiten das – oft auf den Mittelpunkt hin sich verdichtende – Motiv des Kreises. Mit den runden Leinwänden, die sie in der Art einer Drehscheibe waagrecht in Drehung versetzt, um so die Farbe auftragen zu können, beschäftigte Bettina Schünemann sich ausführlich im Rahmen eines Stipendiums, mit dem sie im Jahr 2008 von der Kulturstiftung des Freistaats Thüringen ausgezeichnet wurde.
Sehr zwingend wirkt die präzise konzentrische und konzentrierende Komposition, oft unterstützt durch zusätzliche speichenartige Elemente, die auf den Mittelpunkt hinweisen aber auch die Rotation des Kreismotivs suggerieren. „Konzentration ist der bewusste Gegensatz zur Beliebigkeit“, formuliert Bettina Schünemann.“

CIRCULATION
Several layers of paint and various materials are combined, at times pushing the boundaries of what is technically feasible. The work also addresses thematic questions regarding cyclical processes.
“The *Tondi* and the CIRCULATION series explore the motif of the circle—a form that often intensifies as it draws toward the center. Bettina Schünemann engaged extensively with these round canvases—which she rotates horizontally, like a turntable, to apply the paint—during a residency awarded to her in 2008 by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Thuringia.
The precise, concentric, and centering composition is strikingly compelling; it is often reinforced by additional spoke-like elements that point toward the center while simultaneously suggesting the rotation of the circular motif. ‘Concentration is the conscious antithesis of arbitrariness,’ states Bettina Schünemann.”
